Antihistamines for Atopic Dermatitis

Describe your topic.
Should patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) be given antihistamines when they do not present signs of atopic comorbidity? Does the type of antihistamine given (sedating or non-sedating) to a patient affect its efficacy in treating the comorbidity?
Describe why this topic is important.
There is mixed opinion about using antihistamine to AD patients. So, the physicians are interested in knowing where the majority of the evidence is pointing towards to. This would help to develop recommendations in our upcoming AD guideline update.

Describe what you are doing currently and what you are hoping will change because of a new evidence report.
The evidence report would help the academy to decide if treatment recommendations should be developed on using antihistamines in AD patients. Our previous guideline did not provide recommendations around this topic.
How will you or your group use the information from a new evidence report?
The American Academy of Dermatology will soon be updating our guideline for the management of atopic dermatitis. We plan to use a new evidence report to draft evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of atopic dermatitis.
How would you or your group plan to disseminate information from the report? Who would you plan to disseminate it to?
The evidence report from EPC would be reviewed by nominated workgroup physicians in deciding treatment recommendations on use of antihistamines for atopic dermatitis guideline.
Do you know of organizations that could use an evidence report to change clinical practice? Are you a part of, or have you been in contact with, any organizations that might implement the research findings of an evidence report?
The evidence report from EPC would be reviewed by workgroup members in deciding treatment recommendations for developing clinical guideline. However, collaboration with EPC needs governance approval and we cannot guarantee it at this point in time.
