Introduction to Antipsychotics in Pediatric Use (1 of 4)

Antipsychotics can be classified into two categories based on the timeline of their development, their mechanisms of action, and their anticipated adverse effect profiles. These are first-generation antipsychotics (FGAs), also called conventional or typical antipsychotics, and second-generation antipsychotics, also called atypical antipsychotics. FGAs were the first successful pharmacological treatments for primary psychotic disorders such schizophrenia.
