Outcomes of Interest in Studies on Second-Generation Antidepressants for Depression

The health outcomes of interest from the included studies were response, remission, speed of response/remission, relapse, quality of life, functional capacity, and hospitalization. The safety and tolerability of second-generation antidepressants were measured by overall adverse events, withdrawals because of adverse events, serious adverse events, and specific adverse events (hyponatremia, seizures, suicide, hepatotoxicity, weight gain, gastrointestinal symptoms, sexual side effects, and others).
