Management of Chronic Kidney Disease Stages 1–3

This slide set is based on a comparative effectiveness review (CER) entitled Chronic Kidney Disease Stages 1–3: Screening, Monitoring, and Treatment, which was developed by the Minnesota Evidence-based Practice Center for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ Contract No. HHSA 290-2007-10064-I) and is available online at www.effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov/ckd.cfm. CERs are comprehensive systematic reviews of the literature and usually compare two or more types of treatments or interventions, such as different drugs, for the same condition. For the CER on chronic kidney disease stages 1–3, data sources were taken from searches of MEDLINE® and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews from January 1985 through January 2011 for original English-language articles. Manual searches of reference lists of identified systematic reviews and primary reports were also conducted. A broad search of the grey literature was also conducted. The review this slide set is based on 110 included reports of eligible randomized clinical trials and case control trials; it is limited to early stage chronic kidney disease because it is intended to inform the patient care decisions of primary care physicians.
