Second-Generation Antidepressants for Treating Adult Depression—An Update

Slide: 2 of 28

Outline of Material

This slide talk is based on the research presented in the comparative effectiveness review (CER), Second-Generation Antidepressants in the Pharmacologic Treatment of Adult Depression: An Update of the 2007 Comparative Effectiveness Review, which was developed by the RTI International–University of North Carolina Evidence-based Practice Center for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Rockville, MD (Contract No. 290-2007-10056-I). CERs represent systematic reviews of the literature and usually compare two or more types of treatments, such as different drugs, devices, or procedures for the same disease. The methods used to develop this CER followed the Methods Reference Guide for Effectiveness and Comparative Effectiveness Reviews published by AHRQ.

This presentation will briefly review the CER process, including the specific questions addressed in this CER and the results from this research. Finally, the data that are most applicable to clinicians and policy decisionmakers are presented.
