The topic is important because the patient is in treatment to manage their substance use. When a patient is prescribed a narcotic by a physician it reverse and enhance the use of a substance for the patient.

The research can help patients and physicians see that an alternative method of pain relievers will help reduce pain without using narcotics. It will help in the recovery process to maintain sobriety and reduce the abuse of prescription drug use.
