Psychedelic-Assisted Interventions

NOMINATED TOPIC | February 20, 2024

1. What is the decision or change (e.g., clinical topic, practice guideline, system design, delivery of care) you are facing or struggling with where a summary of the evidence would be helpful?

I’m interested in the outcome measures of Psychedelic-assisted interventions with and without coinciding therapy with a trained/licensed therapist.

2. Why are you struggling with this issue?

I’m seeing people use psychedelics to treat their mental illness thinking the medication is what’s going to heal them. My hypothesis is that yes, they will see improvements in symptoms, however, when psychedelic-assisted interventions are done in random with therapy with a trained/licensed therapist it’s not only safer (preparation work can be done) but by doing therapy to integrated the experience will improve outcome measures and longer lasting effects over time.

3. What do you want to see changed? How will you know that your issue is improving or has been addressed?

If the research shows outcome measures are consistently better when psychedelic-assisted interventions are combined with therapy with a trained/licensed therapist I will continue to recommend this and offer more specific therapeutic services to the client population I serve.

4. When do you need the evidence report?

Thu, 10/31/2024

5. What will you do with the evidence report?

Assist in further practice guidelines, potential insurance coverage decisions, program planning, training and development.
