What is the comparative effectiveness of invasive but non-surgical treatments (e.g., genicular artery embolization, genicular nerve block, etc.) for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee who have had an inadequate response to oral therapies as well as intra-articular corticosteroid and/or hyaluraonate injections?

2. Why are you struggling with this issue?

It is unclear if these non-surgical invasive treatments are effective for relief of pain and improvement in function. Furthermore, they are not widely available and the referral patterns are unclear. Finally, it is unknown whether they can defer the need for total joint arthroplasty.

3. What do you want to see changed? How will you know that your issue is improving or has been addressed?

Change in the algorithm for management of patients with knee OA who have moderate-to-severe pain and functional limitation despite prior medical therapy, especially if they don't want surgery or oral opioid analgesics.
