NOMINATED TOPIC | February 20, 2024

1. What is the decision or change (e.g. clinical topic, practice guideline, system design, delivery of care) you are facing or struggling with where a summary of the evidence would be helpful?

Questions: What is the comparative effectiveness in reducing post-op opioid usage when Zynrelef was used for a choice of local anesthetics compared to Exparel ?
Population: Adults undergoing knee or hip replacement
Intervention: Zynrelef Vs. Exparel
Outcomes: Opioid Usage in Morphine Equivalent, Ambulation Distance both groups, Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (PROMs), such as, HOOS (Hip dysfunction and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score) and KOOS (Knee injury and Osteoarthritis
Setting: Surgery, Post-Op

Zynrelef is relatively a new drug and there has been some evidence that Exparel has not lasted more than 72 hours in which the patients likely consumer more opioids to control the post-op pain.

Comparable data between Zynrelef and Exparel to identify opportunities to reduce opioid consumption.

4. When do you need the evidence report?

Wed, 01/01/2025

5. What will you do with the evidence report?

To guide healthcare decisions in the inpatient setting, possibly in a healthcare system. This also will be helpful if embedded in the practice guidelines.
