What is the impact of various and newer physician compensation plans? What is their effect on physician behavior ? On care quality ? On care cost? How have they evolved in recent decades?

Describe why this topic is important.

For most of the last 100 years, physician compensation has been straightforward and easily understood: either "you eat what you kill" or straight salary. However, with recent changes in health care in the US has come new or expanded hospital physician relationships. With those changing relationships have come changes in the way physicians are compensated. Those changes have aimed a changing physician behavior, often in service of the "triple aim" (or, more recently, "quadruple aim"). There are many models of physician compensation, suggesting that we don't yet understand the relationship between physician compensation and physician behavior. perhaps this review will help sharpen our understanding of that relationship.
