Briefly describe a specific question, or set of related questions, about a health care test or treatment that this program should consider.

Using CCFA's IBD Qorus program (quality of care initiative underway with anticipated 20,000 patients in the next few years) could look at adult patients with Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis and compare risks and outcome measures between varying medication and treatment therapies. This program will advance the quality of IBD care through establishing standard practices to improve patient outcomes and overall quality of life.

Describe why this topic is important.

An estimated 1.6 million Americans have Crohn s disease or ulcerative colitis, and with the increasing prevalence of IBD, it is more critical than ever to determine ways to more accurately diagnose and properly treat these diseases. The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America's IBD Qorus (Quality of Care program) seeks to identify and implement standard practices for diagnosing and treating IBD patients.

IBD Qorus will demonstrate the feasibility and utility of a registry-enabled care and learning health system for IBD patients, and show that patients and clinicians can effectively and efficiently collaborate to coproduce optimal health and high-value care.

How will an answer to your research question be used or help inform decisions for you or your group?

The team will study the results and set short and long-term goals of success by identifying and tracking the key performance metrics required to exhibit measurably better health and more appropriate use of health care resources.
