- Briefly describe a specific question, or set of related questions, about a health care test or treatment that this program should consider.
What is the comparative safety and effectiveness of available treatment strategies for women with rheumatoid arthritis who are considering pregnancyHow does the evidence supporting available treatment options compare for women from specific subgroups e.g. women with previous children different disease states within RA age other factors
- Describe why this topic is important.
Although there is a 2012 systematic review on RA it focused on adults broadly did not include complementary alternative therapies and did not find evidence describing the safety and effectiveness of available treatments in women. RA is however most prevalent in women and it is often diagnosed in women in their 30s and early 40s who may still be within child bearing years. How best to alter their medication while trying to get pregnant while pregnant while breastfeeding are all unclear and what guidance to provide women regarding how decisions related to pregnancy will impact their RA prognosis is also uncertain
- How will an answer to your research question be used or help inform decisions for you or your group?
When considering pregnancy after being diagnoses with RA
I would have liked clearer evidence regarding how my treatment options would impact my prognosis my future child and my current children because of any changes in my prognosis. This data has not been synthesized. There does appear to be some small studies and several observational studies that potentially could be combined using patientlevel meta analysis
