NOMINATED TOPIC | March 21, 2015
Briefly describe a specific question, or set of related questions, about a health care test or treatment that this program should consider.

Would patients with Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder PGAD benefit from Deep Brain Stimulation

Describe why this topic is important.

More and more women and men are revealing to their doctors that they are suffering with PGAD. PGAD can seriously alter a patients life causing depression anxiety and in severe cases like that of Gretchen Molannens suicide. The origins of PGAD are unknown but Dr. Barry Komisaruk has found the exact location for arousal in the brain. Deep Brain Stimulation may help patients to live lives without persistent arousal.

How will an answer to your research question be used or help inform decisions for you or your group?

I have suffered from PGAD for 20 years. I have tried many things for relief SSRIs nerve blocks controlled pain medications anxiety medications TENS units but nothing has made the arousal stop. I am part of a few PGAD support groups and all those who have PGAD suffer miserably from having to quit jobs be hospitalized have severe depression anxiety suicidal thoughts ruined marriages relationships etc. If Deep Brain Stimulation could put an end or at the very least minimize the unwanted arousal PGAD patients could live better and happier lives.
