Endometrial Ablation for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

Describe your topic.
Endometrial ablation refers to a number of minimally invasive intrauterine surgical procedures performed to treat abnormal uterine bleeding in selected women who do not desire future fertility. P: Women with abnormal uterine bleeding I: Endometrial Ablation C: Non-ablative management, LNG-IUD/oral medical therapy, No ablation or treatment, Ablation by specific device (Cryotherapy (Her Option), Heated Free Fluid (Hydro ThermAblator), Microwave (Microwave Endometrial Ablation System), Radiofrequency Electricity (NovaSure, Minerva, Thermal Balloon (ThermaChoice) O: Pictorial Blood Loss Assessment Chart (PBLAC), need for hysterectomy, patient satisfaction, cost effectiveness
Describe why this topic is important.
For most gynecologic surgeons treating patients with abnormal uterine bleeding, endometrial ablation techniques are commonly used. Endometrial ablation is indicated for the treatment of menorrhagia or patient-perceived heavy menstrual bleeding in premenopausal women with normal endometrial cavities who have no desire for future fertility. In general, such patients will have experienced failure of or will be intolerant of medical therapy. When menorrhagia or excessive menstrual bleeding occurs in the context of submucosal myomata, endometrial ablation may be effective, depending on the location and diameter of the myomata as well as the system used for performing endometrial ablation.
Tell us why you are suggesting this topic.
A rigorous systematic review on this topic would greatly benefit the field of OBGYNs, and thereby the patients they treat.

Describe what you are doing currently and what you are hoping will change because of a new evidence report.
We have documents that provide guidance on Endometrial Ablation. However, this report would strength the evidence platform to allow us to update documents on this topic that we'd then provide to our membership.
How will you or your group use the information from a new evidence report?
We will use this report to inform our clinical guidance.
How would you or your group plan to disseminate information from the report? Who would you plan to disseminate it to?
We would disseminate the information to our membership of OBGYNs
Do you know of organizations that could use an evidence report to change clinical practice? Are you a part of, or have you been in contact with, any organizations that might implement the research findings of an evidence report?
Yes, we are part of a medical organization that would disseminate and implement the research findings from this evidence report
