As a practicing community psychiatrist working in public service, one of the primary concerns i have, and which i hear from others is the utility of the 15 minute med check. this is now the primary element of practice. But i am unaware of any research on it or alternative ways of structuring practice. An examination of the practice, of other possibilities and a delineation of how to decide how to practice seems warranted.

Treatment of a particular disease or condition, what improvements in patient symptoms or problems would you like to see? I would like to see a clear sense by psychiatrists of how to appropriately use their clinical time with patients and with members of the team taking care of patients

- psychiatric time is being used rigidly without clear guidelines to determine content of service, length of service or timing of service, especially in context of team based care now common in mental health

- what is the best way to organize psychiatric time in community health settings? how should psychiatrists determine how often and for how long to see patients? what should they attempt to do during those interventions? how should they work with the consumer and members of the mental health care team? what are the best ways (most effective/efficient ways) for community psychiatrists to organize their clinical encounters?
