Single use disposable endoscopes are proliferating in the hospital setting. The companies that are making these scopes site 'infection risk prevention' a justification for some of the scope types, and 'availability and convenience;' as a justification for some scopes. It would be helpful to have infection risk and quality evidence that helps hospitals decide when a reusable endoscope creates a notable risk to health, and when I reusable scope is reasonable to use.

The sales teams of single-use disposable endoscopes are leading the discussion on the topic. We need healthcare quality and infection prevention science to continue to guide this discussion.
