- Hypertension management in diabetes. Recent National Guidelines have conflicting recommendations particularly for those over 60. AHA/ACC- ACP/AAFP and large studies either include or exclude patients with DM. There is recent data altering the target from 130/80 to 140/90 for patients with diabetes. Population- adults with diabetes Intervention:Best management for patients with diabetes- treatment goals- i.e. target blood pressure vs risk assessment, harm- number of meds needed to treat, impact of treatment on renal function, use of risk calculator for HBP and DM use for shared decision making. benefit of Self-measure blood pressure in managing HBP in this population. Outcome: Reduced morbidity and mortality.- Specialty societies do not seem to provide unbiased opinions.
