- Briefly describe a specific question, or set of related questions, about a health care test or treatment that this program should consider.
I would like to suggest a study in effective treatment of Tinnitus and Vertigo.
- Does your question include a comparison of different health care approaches? (If no, your topic will still be considered.)
yes
- If yes, explain the specific technologies, devices, drugs, or interventions you would like to see compared:
My husband was prescribed an OTC for travel sickness, did not work and is currently using natural remedies for both conditions but they take time to work and it keeps coming back. Suffering for weeks.
- What patients or group(s) of patients does your question apply to? (Please include specific details such as age range, gender, coexisting diagnoses, and indications for therapy.)
Actually anyone suffering with ongoing tinnitus or problems with vertigo. We have found out this plagues all age ranges. My husband is 47 and has one ear with a hole in the eardrum and other ear has tinnitus. Hit with vertigo a few weeks ago and still struggling with it everyday. Went for one week without the problem but came back this week.
- Are there subgroups of patients that your question might apply to? (For example, an ethnic group, stage or severity of a disease.)
Not really, people we know who have had this problem are both white caucasian and hispanic.
- Describe the health-related benefits you are interested in. (For example, improvements in patient symptoms or problems from treatment or diagnosis.)
Stop the ringing and "train whoosing" noises.Stop the spinning sensations.
- Describe any health-related risks, side effects, or harms that you are concerned about.
Driving when the vertigo hits him. Fortunately he has not been driving when it occurs.....yet.
Appropriateness for EHC Program
- Does your question include a health care drug, intervention, device, or technology available (or likely to be available) in the U.S.?
no
- Which priority area(s) and population(s) does this topic apply to? (check all that apply)
-
- EHC Priority Conditions (updated in 2008)
- Functional limitations and disability
- AHRQ Priority Populations
- None
- Federal Health Care Program

Importance
- Describe why this topic is important.
It seems the medical doctors are yet to be able to stop or control these problems. Even the natural remedies do not actually stop it longterm.
- What specifically motivated you to ask this question? (For example, you are developing a clinical guideline, working with a policy with large uncertainty about the appropriate approach, costly intervention, new research you have read, items in the media you may have seen, a clinical practice dilemma you know of, etc.)
My husband is suffering daily with this issue.
- Does your question represent uncertainty for clinicians and/or policy-makers? (For example, variations in clinical care, controversy in what constitutes appropriate clinical care, or a policy decision.)
yes
- If yes, please explain:
DOctors only prescribe an OTC for travel sickness that does not work and of course nothing for tinnitus including the statement "if we can't see it, we can't treat it".
