Mask Wearing for Medical Appointments

NOMINATED TOPIC | December 13, 2021

1. What is the decision or change (e.g. clinical topic, practice guideline, system design, delivery of care) you are facing or struggling with where a summary of the evidence would be helpful?

What is the effectiveness of making everyone, without exception wear a face mask to enter all health care facilities for all medical proceedures or visits? There are many past peer reviewed studies that have been done on this subject that show no benefits but there has also been current from pandemic data that also have come to the same conclusions of masking the general public. When the entire population is masked, which type of face mask would protect, what would it protect against and who should be wearing the mask? The pro's and con's of benefits as well as the health impact on each individual. The mental aspect of forced masking. What ages are being hurt by such a general one size fits all policy?

2. Why are you struggling with this issue?

I am struggling with this issue because I can not have my eyes done for cataract surgery. I have no vision in my right eye which has caused me to suffer some tripping and falling. I cracked opened my head, hurt my hand to name 2 experiences but I have them a lot. I suffer from anxiety from covering my mouth and nose preventing me from breathing. Why is part of the population being discriminated against because of our health issues? Why are no accommodations been made to address this part of the population? The studies I have read conflict with your policy of making everyone wear a mask. If it is about health, why are you not addressing my health? I have been dealing with this for 2 years and it is causing me to suffer mental anxiety from being discriminated against. Please show me how forcing everyone to wear a mask has stopped transmission of the virus? How it has not done more harm then helped?

3. What do you want to see changed? How will you know that your issue is improving or has been addressed?

I would like to see either a voluntary mask request or delegating special days or times for those who can not wear a mask can come to have services rendered and medical issues addressed.

I will know how it will affect me by this change because I will finally be able to have my health issues corrected. That means my eye site will improve, my hearing might be improved and my mental health with give be extinguished and I will be a happy person again!

4. When do you need the evidence report?

Mon, 12/20/2021

5. What will you do with the evidence report?

Well, it depends on what the reports say, how they were conducted and by whom they were conducted by? I have very highly recommended studies I follow, so yours would have to prove them wrong. I can provide the studies I have read at a future time. I wasn't prepared to provide them when I submitted this request. I didn’t know until this end point. I would need to go through my files for this information.
