Medical Care in Older Adults

Topic Suggestion

1. What is the decision or change you are facing or struggling with where a summary of the evidence would be helpful?

We are interested in comparing general medical care for older adults (Age 65 or greater than 80) compared to care provided by Geriatrics as primary care physicians and/or as consultants. There are increasing numbers of older adults and it is not clear who is best served to care for this growing aging population.

2. Why are you struggling with this issue?

There are increasing numbers of older adults and it is not clear who is best served to care for this growing aging population.
Health systems/insurers have a hard time classifying geriatrics as a specialty or primary care field. Within Geriatrics there is some consensus around how to set up a practice and which quality metrics to follow, but this is very different from general medical care, and in fee for service environment this model is not financially feasible.

3. What do you want to see changed? How will you know that your issue is improving or has been addressed?

Review of evidence or suggestion on what evidence is needed. conclusions to help guide practices, insurers and health systems

4. When do you need the evidence report?
