Topic Suggestion

1. What is the decision or change you are facing or struggling with where a summary of the evidence would be helpful?

I am interested in helping to incorporate preventive care. It would seem preventing or even mitigating chronic disease for those that are obese would be more cost-effective than not doing so. My idea is to trial or start a program in which those that are obese, have co-morbidity risk factors, and have injuries, where it would be beneficial to have someone that is trained either as a physical therapist or a personal trainer to help them with an exercise program in order to lose weight. The catch is that I am proposing that this program be one that is covered by health insurance and thus would need a prescription from a healthcare provider and therefore a billing code also.

2. Why are you struggling with this issue?

I am curious if there are any programs like this out there? Also, curious if any health insurance companies already do have a billing code for this?

3. What do you want to see changed? How will you know that your issue is improving or has been addressed?

I feel that if we had programs like this available there is great potential to reduce the overall costs of healthcare. If we could reduce the amount of new chronic conditions that are diagnosed we could reduce trillions of dollars spent in healthcare.

5. What will you do with the evidence report?

I am currently in a doctoral program for nursing. I would like to utilize this information fo my capstone project and it is something that I am passionate about. I am also considering possibly reaching out to political members or even becoming involved with politics myself in order to aid in healthcare issues.
