The efficacy of prophylactic trimming of corns and callouses.

NOMINATED TOPIC | September 21, 2016
Briefly describe a specific question, or set of related questions, about a health care test or treatment that this program should consider.

The efficacy of prophylactic trimming of corns and callouses.

Describe why this topic is important.

Medicare spends much money for these treatments. (podiatrists charge for a procedure and also a level III E&M charge but does practice improve any medical outcome? (It also has harmful effects.)

How will an answer to your research question be used or help inform decisions for you or your group?

If this is being done primarily for vanity Medicare should not pay for it. I'm also concerned about the risk of infection if it's not helpful.
